When it was built, Buchanan Dam was considered to be the longest multiple-arch dam in the US with a length of just over 2 miles.

Inks Lake State Park is 2,000 acres on Inks Lake southeast of Buchanan Dam. Whether it's the astounding profusion of wildflowers in the spring, the refreshing waters of the Llano River in the summer, the lure of landing a trophy fish in the fall, or the abundance of deer in winter, rest assured Llano is in the center of activity. Buchanan is also the winter home of the American bald eagle. Llano County has aptly been called the "Deer Capital of Texas."

Deer are also plentiful around Inks Lake at the golf course and at the state park, as well as in Horseshoe Bay on Lake LBJ. Golfers will be thrilled with the 9-hole public Highland Lakes Golf Course.
