Buchanan Dam, in Llano County, is a small resort and retirement community on the south shore of Lake Buchanan. It is a popular center for tourist activity on and around Lake Buchanan, and is on State Hwy 29. Burnet, known as the "Bluebonnet Capital of Texas," is about 15.7 miles east.

First known as Bluffton Dam after the nearby town
of Bluffton, its name was changed to Hamilton Dam, probably because it had been surveyed in 1926
by an engineer named Hamilton.

Lake Buchanan is the second largest of the Highland Lakes in central Texas with a length of 30 miles and a width at the widest point of just under 5 miles, and a shoreline of 124 miles. When it was built, Buchanan Dam was considered to be the longest multiple-arch dam in the US with a length of just over 2 miles.

As you can tell, there's much to see and do in the Highland Lakes Region. Drop by our United Country office when you're in the area and let us help you
with your real estate dreams.
